Description

Dense dark purple colour in colour, with a classic Coonawarra bouquet of black current, cherry and sweet vanilla oak characters. The palate demonstrates a classic ‘dry red’ style with rich midpalate fruit and density, balanced with fine Cabernet tannins and length.

A warm summer with clear nights helped to provide further concentration of colour and flavour in the grapes with an early April harvest. The individual parcels of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot were picked on separate dates and fermented separately in a selection of small stainless steel vessels.

Each ferment was pumped over twice daily for enhanced extraction of flavours before being pressed they were transferred to a selection of French and American oak featuring 20% new oak. Each parcel was matured for 20 months before barrels were individually selected for the final wine.

“Offering stunning fruit purity as well as seductive complexity, the wine shows blackcurrant, sweet plum, toasty oak and floral aromas, leading to a concentrated palate that’s gorgeously ripe and rounded, beautifully flowing to a lengthy structured finish. At its best: 2024 to 2037.”

“A ripe and sophisticated cabernet-based red with plenty of fine tannin and toasty oak alongside the cassis and red fruit character. Impressively plush tannins drive the long finish. A cuvee of cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc, merlot. Drink or hold.”

“This is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot. Aromas are immediately engaging with perfumed notes of violet and red berry. The lift of the Cabernet Franc and its red fruits seems evident. The palate is seamless and smoothly structured with supply soft fruit supported by those fine chalky Coonawarra tannins and well-integrated fine grained oak. A very tidy blend from this region. Cellar 10 years.”

“Part of the exquisitely packaged Nightfall range of Coonawarra crackers, this is the blend – the rest being straight varietals. A combo of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot. So much to like here. For what it is worth, this is the only member of the range under screwcap. The rest under diam and the Draco even has one of those wax coverings – yes, they look good but personally, a pain in the proverbial to open. Screwcap every time. I digress. Each of the three varieties here was harvested discretely and then fermented separately in small stainless steel vessels. Twice daily pumpovers before pressing into a mix of French and American oak, 20% of the latter new. The individual parcels were then matured for 20 months in selected barrels.

Inky dark magenta, this is youthful with coiled power and serious concentration. Notes of blackberries, chocolate, a handful of warm earth, some oak, a hint of vanilla and mint and bay leaves. Toss a hint of leafiness into the mix. Seamless with good, vibrant acidity and cashmere tannins. Notes of axle grease (which I mean in the most positive sense) and coffee beans emerge on the palate. Will cellar for ten years without a problem. Delicious.”

“Opaque core into a deep ruby-red rim. Blackberry, black olive and bay leaf lift from the glass. Dark fruits on entry, they morph into a savoury, saline and cedar mid-palate with dexterity. Firm and grippy tannins dry and drive it quite long. Definitely a wine that would benefit food to make the most of those tannins.”
